U.S. Daylight Saving Time Changes

DataDirect SequeLink

The United States has planned a change to its Daylight Saving Time (DST) observance beginning in 2007. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 mandates that DST will start on the second Sunday in March and end on the first Sunday in November. For 2007, this means that DST will start and end on the following dates:

Start date: March 11
End date: November 4

DataDirect Technologies performs ongoing testing to ensure that all SequeLink driver configurations work properly for all DST transitions. No changes were required for SequeLink. If your application is sensitive to the change in DST, you must ensure that the operating system and database have been updated for the change in DST rules for 2007 and beyond. Refer to the following vendor links for details.

JVM Versions with Updated Rules for DST

The SequeLink Client for JDBC driver relies on the underlying Java platform for its handling of time zones and DST. If your application is sensitive to the change in DST, you must run the application with a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) that has been updated for the change in DST rules for 2007 and beyond. The JVM versions that use the updated rules for DST are listed here.

Sun Microsystems

Java SE 6 or higher
J2SE 5.0 Update 6 or higher
J2SE 1.4.2_11 or higher
J2SE 1.3.1_18 or higher

IBM

DST compatibility depends on the operating system on which the JVM runs. Refer to the following IBM documents for details:

BEA Systems

JRockit 1.5.0_06 R26.3 or higher

Other JVM Vendors

Contact your JVM vendor for information about their support for DST changes.

DataDirect has tested the SequeLink 5.4 and 5.5 Client for JDBC drivers running on updated JVM versions and has verified that the new DST start and end dates beginning in 2007 adhere to the new DST rules. No driver changes were needed.

If your application uses time and date built-in database functions, JDBC time and date scalar function escapes1, or Java stored procedures that perform date and time processing, you must ensure that the database has been updated to support the DST time change. Refer to the following database vendor links below for details.
